Paul Wayne Allen, 41, appeared before the Utah Board of Pardons and Parole last month, and the board recently announced its decision to release Allen on April 3, 2007.

Allen was sentenced on a first-degree felony charge of aggravated sexual assault of a child in 2002, for an incident which happened on Sept. 10, 2001. First District Judge Clint Judkins sentenced Allen to five years to life in prison.

The charge stemmed from Allen's playing an inappropriate "game" with a then-5-year-old boy while the boy was at Allen's house. Allen reportedly told police that at some point in the game, he and the boy were nude and that he fondled himself in front of the child.

After the public learned about Allen's arrest, allegations of other incidents where Allen sexually abused children arose, and the charge against him was enhanced from a second-degree felony to a first-degree felony.

At Allen's sentencing, family members of Allen's victims asked Judkins to sentence Allen to life in prison. While Judkins' sentence did allow for Allen to spend the rest of his life in prison, the Board of Pardons has the final say in how long a convict stays in prison. Allen will be paroled fewer than five years after his sentence.
