COLUMBUS, Ohio -- A bill already passed by the Senate to regulate strip clubs in Ohio brought a big crowd to its House Judiciary Committee hearing on Thursday, Fox 8's John Damschroder reports.
The proposed law would end nude or semi-nude performing at midnight and would require a distance of 6 feet between dancers and customers at all times.
Cincinnati-based Citizens for Community Values launched the proposed change to Ohio laws on sexually oriented businesses with an initiative petitition which forced lawmakers to consider their proposal.
The Ohio Senate passed the plan last week. Now if the House goes along, the issue will come to voters this fall. If the House does not act by May 2, Citizens for Community Values will seek more petitions to force a statewide vote in the November election.
Allen County Sheriff Daniel Beck told lawmakers that he discovered the world of strip clubs while working on a deep cover assignment before being elected.
National Association of Club Executives leader, former Ohio dancer Angelina Spencer, says that the proposed Ohio law would have the tightest restrictions in the country.
