A St. Charles Township man who helped the FBI with sting operations on child pornography users was found guilty Monday of having illegal pictures of his own.
Kane County Judge Timothy Sheldon found Robert S. Prinzing guilty of six of seven counts of possession of child pornography. Prinzing originally was charged with nine counts in 2004, but two counts were dismissed prior to the bench trial verdict.
At issue in the one-day trial was whether a nude or partially clothed picture of child was enough to constitute child pornography or whether the child needed to be engaged in a sex act.
Prinzing told police that he did not believe pictures of unclothed children not in sexual poses constituted child pornography. Prosecutor Justin Fitzsimmons argued Prinzing knew the pictures were illegal. Through his work at Comcast Cable, Prinzing helped FBI officials obtain Internet information on suspected pedophiles.
“Today Judge Sheldon sent a very important message that possession of images of naked young children is sexual exploitation of children and will not be tolerated in Kane County,” he said.
