The 32-year-old Keller man was sentenced to 20 years in prison Thursday for engaging in a sexual relationship with a student who also was a member of his church. On Wednesday, jurors convicted Mr. Wamsley of having an improper relationship with a student and sexual assault.

"For three years, you deceived me," the teen said during Thursday's hearing. "You told me you loved me and that you wanted to take me as your wife."

Mr. Wamsley had taught at Castleberry High School before his arrest in 2004. He is also a former youth director at River Oaks United Methodist Church, where the girl attended.

"I was too naïve to believe you would not violate my daughter," she cried, facing Mr. Wamsley as he sat at the defense table alongside his attorney, Don Gandy.

"This man violated the trust of the church, he violated the trust of the school, he violated the trust of the victim's family and his own family, " Mr. Vassar said.
