Northampton County Judge Stephen G. Baratta ordered a pre-sentence investigation and set a hearing for July 9 to determine whether Michael Edward Hitzel is a sexually violent predator.

Authorities learned in November that Hitzel, of the 1100 block of Jackson Street, had child pornography on his computer, according to state police Trooper Paul Iannace.

Police said officers went to Hitzel's home Jan. 10 and found two photographs of girls engaging in sex acts or simulated sex acts on his computer.

In exchange for his plea, charges of criminal use of a communication facility and obscene and other sexual material and performances were withdrawn.
