Former Bruceville-Eddy superintendent Dan Doyen, who pleaded guilty Friday to placing a hidden camera in a women’s restroom at the school administration office in November 2005, may be forced to register as a sex offender.
Doyen, 46, pleaded guilty in Waco’s 54th State District Court to two counts of improper photography or visual recordings, state-jail felonies punishable by up to two years in jail and fines up to $10,000.
Prosecutor Melanie Walker recommended Doyen be placed on felony probation for five years and fined $500. She also recommended he be forced to register as a sex offender for five years and be supervised on the sex-offender case load.
Doyen’s attorney, Guy Cox, told the judge his client will oppose the registration requirement and will seek to be placed on deferred adjudication probation. Walker said she would not oppose his request for deferred probation.
Doyen, who resigned in November 2005, admitted that he placed a video camera disguised to look like an air freshener in a bathroom used by women in his office in an effort to obtain nude images of them.
While Cox declined comment, Walker said Cox will argue later to the judge that the sex-offender registration requirements do not apply to the crime to which Doyen pleaded guilty.
